Dr. Forman received his PhD in Biochemistry from Columbia University. and did his postdoctoral work at Duke University. He has held faculty positions at the University of Kansas (Biochemistry), University of Pennsylvania (Physiology), University of Alabama at Birmingham (Chair of Environmental Health Sciences), University of California at Merced (Founding Faculty in School of Natural Sciences) and at USC previously (Pediatrics, Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology, Pathology). Dr. Forman’s research achievements are pioneering work in mitochondrial superoxide production in which he demonstrated that manganese superoxide dismutase actually pulls the reaction forward, redox signaling in which he first demonstrated signaling by endogenously generated hydrogen peroxide, and mechanisms of induced resistance to oxidative stress in which he demonstrated the induction by quinones of the first enzyme in glutathione biosynthesis. He has over 185 peer-reviewed publications and been an invited lecturer at many national and international symposia. Dr. Forman is Past President of the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine and served for many years as the Reviews Editor of Free Radical Biology & Medicine. He is now Editor-in-Chief of Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics.

Dr. Forman’s laboratory focuses on the areas of oxidative stress and signal transduction. One major NIH funded project investigates the mechanisms underlying the decline in antioxidant protection in aging that increases susceptibility to air pollution induced inflammation. This project involves the dynamics of the interactions between the Nrf2 and NF-kappa B signaling pathways. Another major aspect of Dr. Forman’s research is investigating the role of oxidative stress in the pathology of sickle cell disease. as part of a large NIH supported project at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Professor Andrey Abramov obtained a PhD in biophysics in Tashkent State University (Uzbekistan). He joined the laboratory of Professor Michael Duchen at the Department of Physiology, UCL for postdoctoral training. Interaction of the calcium signalling, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondria have been a major research interest from the PhD projects and have been intensively developed in postdoctoral studies. After obtaining the Parkinson’s UK Senior Research Fellowship in 2008 established laboratory at the Department of Molecular Neuroscience UCL Institute of Neurology.

One of the main directions is investigation of the cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and ALS and the role of mitochondria, ROS and calcium in these processes. Brain consumes more oxygen and glucose than any other tissue to meet high energy demand. Considering this it is not surprise that any changes in energy production (mitochondrial dysfunction) or activation of energy consuming processes (including calcium signalling) in combination with high level of ROS are specifically vulnerable for brain cells.

Helieh S Oz has DVM and MS (U. IL); PhD (U. MN) and clinical translational research certificate (U. KY Med Center). Dr. Oz is an active member of American Association of Gastroenterology (AGA) and AGA Fellow (AGAF). Dr. Oz was PI recipient for NIH-NCCAM grant to investigate Green tea polyphenols and Inflammatory Diseases. Dr. Oz has over 90 publications in the areas of chronic inflammatory disorders (pancreatitis, hepatitis, colitis, periodontitis), microbial and infectious diseases (e.g. Toxoplasmosis, Trypanosomasis, Babesiosis, Pneumocystis pneumonia). Dr. Oz has served as Lead editor for special issues such as Gut Inflammatory, Infectious diseases and Nutrition (Mediators of Inflammation 2017); Nutrients, Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases (Nutrients 2017); Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Repair: Role of Microbiome, Infection, Nutrition (Gastroenterology Research Practice 2016), and co-editor for Parasitic infections in pediatric clinical practice (J Pediatric Infectious Disease 2016) and Chagas Disease, Intech Open Science 2017. Dr. Oz is a member of editorial board for different advisory committees and an avid reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Oz is an immune-microbiologist with expertise in inflammatory and infectious diseases, mucosal Immunity, drug discoveries, pathogenesis, and micronutrient.

Fei Du, PhD has substantial background in high/ultra-high field MRS technical development and neuroscience application. In particular, he has applied EEG, fMRI and in vivo MRS to assess brain activity, cerebral metabolism of energy, and neurotransmitter Glu-Gln cycling.

Dr. Du's current research interest is in better understanding neurobiological mechanisms underlying psychiatric disease and substance abuse disorders using multimodal neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, DTI, MRS), developing novel MRI/MRS approaches for better diagnosis and monitoring disease progression and treatment response.

Catherine M. Cahill is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and co directs the Neurochemistry Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has worked in the area of iron homeostasis and neurodegeneration for the past decade. At MGH, she and her colleagues were the first to discover an iron response element in the 5’UTR of the, Amyloid precursor protein mRNA and in several other neurodegenerative disease associated genes. High through put screens using the 5’UTRs of these mRNAs have landed several small molecules that modulate Iron homeostasis.

Catherine’s interests are in the inflammation associated transcription factors, Activator Protein 1 and Nuclear Factor Kappa B. Her discovery of a novel cross talk pathway between these factors together with her work on developmental expression of AP-1 in the intestine has potential to develop into therapies for intestinal inflammation and cancer.

He is Full Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Universidad de Cordoba and Chair of the Neuroplasticity and Oxidative stress Research Group at IMIBIC Health Research Institute/Universidad de Cordoba (Spain), where he has been since 2001. During: i) 2000-2002 he was a Full Professor at the Neuropharmacology Laboratory, Instituto Nacional de Psiquiatria Ramón de la Fuente (Mexico); ii) 2005 he was a Visiting Associate Professor at the Neuropathology Laboratory, Instituto de Fisiologia Celular, UNAM (Mexico); iii) 2008 he was a Visiting Research at the Excitatory Aminoacids, Instituto Nacional de Neurologia y Neurocirugia Salvador Zubiran (Mexico); and iv) 2008 he was a Visiting Traininer at the Berenson-Allen Center for non-invasive Brain Stimulation, Harvard Medical School (USA).

Dr. Shaul Navon is a medical psychologist and a rehabilitation specialist-guide, a social psychologist and employment expert and therapist and a certified instructor for the treatment of Marriage and Family. Dr. Shaul Navon established He also served as a hypnotist at the Meuhedet Health Fund in Tel Aviv. Dr. Shaul Navon has established two additional services in the treatment of hypnosis within the Tel Aviv Medical Center, Ichilov Hospital: the first, the hypnotherapy service for fibromyalgia patients, the Tel Aviv Medical Center's Rheumatology Institute, and the second, Sensitive intestine) at the Institute of Gastroenterology of the Tel Aviv Medical Center

Edwin de Beurs studied Clinical Psychology at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD in 1993 on the “Assessment and treatment of panic disorder with agoraphobia”. He worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of North-Carolina at Chapel Hill; from 1997 to 2001 as Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry of the Vrije Universiteit , Amsterdam; from 2001 to 2006 as Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry of the Leiden University Medical Center and from 2006 to 2010 as Director of Research and Development at the Netherlands Institute of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology (aka Pieter Baan Center). Since 2010 he is Scientific Director of Stichting Benchmark GGZ and, as of 2015, Professor of Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) and Benchmarking at Clinical Psychology of the University of Leiden.

My research focuses on Routine Outcome Monitoring and Benchmarking as adjuncts to treatment in mental health care. ROM involves routinely assessing the condition of the patient over the course of the treatment with self-report questionnaires or rating scales. Benchmarking is using the resulting outcome data in aggregated form for quality management. The prime research question is whether ROM and Benchmarking improve the efficacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of mental health care. Secondary questions concern development of new measurement instruments and other means of obtaining data on how patients fare during treatment.

I studied at Bristol University and obtained my MBChB in 1972. I have been a General Practitioner in a semi-rural Group Practice in a town called Mossley on the edge of the Pennines for 32 years, and retired from General Practice in 2006 to run more workshops and do more writing. I first started to train in the use of hypnosis in 1989 and gained Accreditation by the British Society of Medical & Dental Hypnosis in 1995. I also trained in Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), becoming a Certified Practitioner in NLP in 1997 and a Master Practitioner in 1998. I have also attended workshops in Brief Therapy run by Bill O’Hanlon, Danie Beaulieu and Steve De Shazer. I use hypnosis, not only to help people manage their anxiety and stress, but also for a wide variety of psychosomatic problems, which include Psoriasis, Eczema, Headaches and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I also see clients for help with unresolved grief, past traumatic experiences, panic disorder, post traumatic stress syndrome, phobias and for pain relief. I see private patients for brief, solution orientated psychotherapy facilitated by hypnosis and charge £50 for an hour session. I see clients at Pennine Medical Centre

More recently I have become interested in how the creative arts and play can facilitate therapy and wellbeing. I have organised and run various creativity workshops that combine stress management and the expressive arts entitled ‘Creative Wellbeing’.
